From March 30th to April 3rd Radio 4EB had the pleasure of hosting and coordinating a Queensland visit by his excellency, Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye, High Commissioner of Rwanda to Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia.

As the first stop on his Australian visit, the Southeast Queensland Rwandan Diaspora Community was of course delighted and the Radio 4EB Kinyarwanda Broadcasting Group (Hobe Australia) – official hosts for the trip – planned several events to ensure all manner of the community were able to meet with His Excellency across the course of his visit.

First up, ‘Radio 4EB Kinyarwanda Broadcasting’ group president Trevor Ndoli Kabagambe, board member Renatus Murindangabo, Station Manager Joanne Pratt and board chairperson Dr Faiza El Higzi (OAM) all welcomed the High Commissioner with a tour of the station premises.

After the tour (and interviews) the High Commissioner met with a group of young Queenslanders of Rwandan heritage to ensure their opportunity to share their own perspectives and desire for future engagement. Followed by a friendly game of football the following day, the visit then officially concluded with a “Meet the High Commissioner” event hosted by the ‘Rwandan Community Abroad’ group. A memorable performance by the Igihozo cultural troupe saw the singing of many traditional songs, led by the High Commissioner himself and joined by those in attendance.

Radio 4EB and the High Commissioner discussed several programs and projects to be collaborated on in the very near future.
