Hi Everyone,
I said in my intro to last month’s newsletter that: Things are exceptionally busy here at Radio 4EB – and so they remain. On May 17th, the station partnered with the QLD govt’s Department of Employment Small Business and Training (DESBT) to present the ‘Queensland Multicultural Small Business Expo’. A live Q&A session led by Queensland Small Business Commissioner Maree Adshead was a huge highlight.
Happening TODAY Fri June 10th – we’re thrilled to be the official media partners for Multicultural Australia‘s 2022 LUMINOUS Lantern Parade. Welcoming all new Queenslanders to our state whilst celebrating the rich cultural contributions of Queensland’s diverse communities. The event kicks off at 6pm in South Bank is FREE, family friendly and features a Parade of over five hundred spectacular lanterns and a World music concert at the South Bank Piazza. Including US. Thursday May 5th, the 2022 Lord Mayor’s Refugee Welcome Ceremony was another huge highlight of May, held to welcome refugees to the City of Brisbane and provide information and services to assist them in settlement.
Friday 13 to Saturday 14 May, we went to WOW Cairns to live broadcast and through a series of bold, entertaining, and conversation-provoking events curated in partnership with local women in the community, celebrated the achievements of women and girls living in the city and surrounding areas, while searching for solutions to on-going gender injustice.
On Saturday, May 27 & May 28 a contingent of Radio 4EB staff and board members attended The National Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcasters’ Council (https://www.nembc.org.au/) conference. It was a fantastic weekend where we were able to meet with colleagues from right across the country and explore the challenges and new positives facing all of us.
4EB Chairperson Faiza El Higzi and myself were both elected to the NEMBC Board and long time Radio 4EB broadcaster Irene Bayldon both continues in her role as the women’s group representative for Queensland and was also appointed NEMBC secretary.
Last but certainly not least, June 28th we are putting a team together to walk the Darkness to Daylight 3km walk – supporting both the QLD Govt’s Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Council and their partnership with Challenge DV. Email us on [email protected] or DM our socials for the free entry code.
Over and out till next time.
