Radio 4EB recently took part in the NEMBC (National Ethnic Multicultural Broadcasting Council) Conference held in Adelaide at the end of May. This annual gathering brought together ethnic radio stations from across Australia for two days of insightful workshops and discussions aimed at shaping the future of ethnic radio in the country.
The conference was a hub of activity as leaders and broadcasters from the ethnic radio sector engaged in discussions crucial to the future of NEMBC and ethnic radio as a whole. A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Community Radio Roadmap 2033 by the Community Broadcasting Foundation and the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia. This visionary roadmap outlines a decade-long plan for the community broadcasting sector, envisioning a future where community broadcasting plays a central role in every community.
A particularly inspiring moment was the gathering of women broadcasters from various stations nationwide. They convened for an evening dedicated to empowering the future of women in media, fostering dialogue and solidarity among female voices in the industry.
The NEMBC Awards and Gala Dinner marked the conclusion of the conference with a celebration of excellence in ethnic broadcasting. Among the distinguished winners was 4EB, alongside journalist Netta Finney, who received the ‘Best Coverage of Women’s Issues’ award for producing exceptional stories on The Wire. This recognition underscores 4EB’s ongoing commitment to cultivating and supporting producers and broadcasters. Special thanks are extended to our outstanding Executive Producer, Eduardo Jordan, for his leadership and dedication in mentoring news producers.
Importantly, this award highlights Netta Finney’s significant advocacy efforts addressing critical women’s issues. Her impactful contributions amplifies the dialogue on these important topics. We extend our congratulations to Netta for this well-deserved achievement!
Stay tuned for what comes next at the NEMBC.
