Last night, the Federal Parliament passed a bill that will allow partial donations of DNA to be donated to treat mitochondrial disease in Australia.

More than 50 Australian babies are born with this condition, and it is a very rare one that could lead to death if not treated correctly.

Families and some organisations are pleased with the legislation being passed, but Senators were debating the issue and brought discourse on the treatment.
