I hope this message finds you warm and well this winter season. I’d like to take a moment to share some exciting updates happening in and around our 4EB community.

Recently, our 4EB staff and board members had the opportunity to attend the 2024 National Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcasting Council Conference in Adelaide, where 4EB played a key role in facilitating discussions and workshops on the future of ethnic broadcasting. It was great to hear from the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia and the Community Broadcasting Foundation
presenting a refresher on the brilliant Community Radio Roadmap 2033.

I am pleased to announce that Radio 4EB received recognition at the NEMBC awards, winning ‘Best Coverage on Women’s Issues’ for our national news program, The Wire, produced by Netta Finney. Eduardo Jordan, Executive Producer of 4EB’s Newsroom and The Wire, gracefully accepted the award on behalf of 4EB and Netta.

Congratulations to Netta for her outstanding advocacy work for women. On behalf of 4EB, I also extend sincere gratitude to Eduardo for his commitment to mentoring new journalists and producers, as well as his exceptional leadership of The Wire.

Additionally, this season, some of the 4EB team took our ‘Get HeARd’ program out regional Queensland, facilitating radio workshops at the Women of the World Festival in Biloela. What a privilege to connect with local women from Biloela, Woorabinda, and across the central QLD region listening to their inspiring stories and experiences! 4EB’s partnership with WOW Australia allows us to capture these important stories and also provide valuable skills development in radio to regional communities and we’re quite excited to continue these developments and a regional partnership with WOW Australia into the future.

Furthermore, our 4EB board in collaboration with our core staff have been actively engaged in strategic planning, focusing on property investments and charting the future direction of 4EB as an organisation.
We look forward to sharing more soon as this continues to develop.

In other exciting news, I’d like to share that the Community Broadcasting Foundation has awarded 4EB significant funding, including multi-year support for The Wire, operational funding supporting future sustainability, and dedicated funding for our multicultural radio programs as well content funding to develop 4EB’s news and sports room. Congratulations to other stations across the sector who were also successful. These achievements highlight our commitment to serving our 4EB community and the wider ethnic and multicultural community across Queensland and beyond.

We invite those interested in sports broadcasting, to reach out to us at [email protected] and [email protected]. A great opportunity to enhance your skills and gain further experience.

As always, we welcome new members to join our 4EB community. Whether you wish to produce your own program or simply support our mission, we look forward to connecting with you, please get in touch.

Thank you for your ongoing support and stay warm!

Kindest,

Queenie Pelesa
