Gender bias can significantly delay diagnosis and lead to misdiagnosis of patients. “Breaking the bias” is this year’s theme for International Women’s day and aims to counter stereotypes, target discrimination and celebrate diversity. Inequity in medical research is one area where gender bias is particularly entrenched. Tests traditionally used male participants and consequently, today’s medical research still doesn’t account for biological differences between the sexes.
