Held in the atrium of the Translational Research Institute (TRI), the evening commenced with a presentation of Madrid: A New Biography, a recently published book exploring the rich history of Spain’s capital. The book’s author, renowned Hispanist Luke Stegemann, captivated the audience with his insights and passion for Madrid.

The event brought together members of Brisbane’s Spanish community, local government representatives, and professionals from the education, travel, and media sectors. Thanks to the support of the Tourism Council of the Madrid Region and the promotional materials on display, educators and travel agents gained valuable insights into the cultural and educational opportunities available in the Greater Madrid region.

Radio 4EB’s Spanish group also participated in the celebration, setting up an information stall and conducting interviews with Luke Stegemann and several attendees.

As a symbolic tribute to Spain’s National Day, Brisbane’s iconic Victoria Bridge was illuminated in the colors of the Spanish flag. Many Spanish residents in the city captured the moment, sharing images with friends and family back home.
