This year marks a major milestone for us at Radio 4EB – we’re celebrating 45 years of the Sri Lankan program! That’s 45 years of cultural richness, community spirit, and incredible contributions that have helped shape the station into what it is today.

Over the last four and a half decades, the Sri Lankan program and community have played a huge role in the station’s growth and success. From providing essential content on the airwaves to engaging with the wider community, their efforts have been invaluable. They’ve not only broadcasted their culture but have also worked tirelessly on the ground to ensure their community is heard and supported, both at 4EB and throughout Brisbane.

Each year, the celebration of the Sri Lankan program brings a renewed sense of pride. Their passion is evident in everything they do—from their well-organised annual general meetings and group gatherings to their monthly e-newsletters, community presence, proactive involvement in local activities, and their commitment to celebrations. One event in my time here that stands out is the annual live Christmas Carols by the Sri Lankan group—a wonderful highlight at the station that our 4EB team thoroughly enjoys supporting.

The Sri Lankan community at 4EB exemplifies everything we stand for: diversity, dedication, and community spirit. Their enthusiasm makes our station stronger, and we are proud to have them with us.

Looking back at 45 years of the Sri Lankan program, it’s clear that their influence has been far-reaching. We’re incredibly proud of their legacy, ongoing dedication, and the impact they continue to make.

In December 2024, we celebrated 45 years of 4EB’s legacy—a vision brought to life by the community to ensure that languages and cultures were heard and celebrated on the airwaves. The Sri Lankan program has been a significant part of 4EB from the very beginning, building a strong and supportive community.

So, on behalf of all the volunteers, members, and staff—past and present—who have been part of this incredible journey, I want to say thank you to the Sri Lankan community at 4EB, both past and present. Thank you for your dedication, passion, and ongoing contributions to 4EB.

We’re looking forward to the next 45 years and to the Sri Lankan program continuing to thrive.

Happy 45!
