Hello there, I am Thisara Pathirannehelage.
First, I like to thank you all for electing me as a board member of Radio 4EB. I am looking forward to doing my best for Radio 4EB – A place I have loved since I came to Australia.
I originally come from Sri Lanka and found out about Radio 4EB immediately after my arrival here in 1998. While studying for my IT degree, I became a broadcaster for the Sri Lankan group and was presenting regular night programs from 1999. I joined the management committee of the Sri Lankan group and went on to hold various position including being the convenor of the group from 2016-2018. My passion for radio and overall community work is still very strong and ongoing even after 25 years.
I love travelling and road trips are the best form of travel for me. I have driven around Australia quite a lot and never really got tired of it. Climbing the highest peak of Australia – Mount Kosciuszko on a harder and longer track on my Son’s 10th birthday is the highlight of travel related activities I have done so far.
My other favourite pass time is watching movies and series. While I prefer movies like ‘Shawshank Redemption’, I love the movie ‘Troy’ for its quotes. Being a Film Director was one of my childhood dreams and still bit of that is left in me.
I am a software engineer by profession and work for a company that design school software. My spouse is Dini and we have 2 kids together; son – Migara and daughter – Ameli. I like to think that I am very much a community person and I try to base my ethics on community interests instead of personal interests.
One of the best pieces of advice I have received in my life is the importance of self-reflection. Probably the only time I don’t question my abilities is when I am singing karaoke!
I hope you enjoyed that insight.
