A Tribute to Robert Taylor
from Irene Tavutavu (secretary of 4EB) on behalf of Radio 4EB.
“I consider myself very fortunate to have been one of Robert Taylor’s students. 4EB was equally fortunate to have such a passionate and dedicated media trainer join our team. Robert brought with him extensive experience from the UK media industry, encompassing not only panel operation and broadcaster training, but also interviewing, broadcasting, journalism, and authorship.
The training model that Robert developed at 4EB was, in our view, second to none. Both Sulieni Layt and I completed the AERTP course under his guidance, and it remains one of the best training programs we have ever attended. Robert was instrumental in creating a professional and comprehensive framework for broadcaster development. Broadcasters who completed Robert’s training were highly regarded throughout the community broadcasting sector. Those who moved to other community radio stations required little or no additional training, such was the quality and thoroughness of his instruction. In fact, several of his graduates went on to secure positions with the ABC in both radio and television. “
We were deeply saddened when, for personal reasons, he returned to New Zealand, and his departure left a significant void within the station.
Robert was a true gentleman whose passion for media and commitment to Maoridom inspired countless broadcasters. His professionalism, kindness, and dedication left a lasting legacy that continues to be felt by all who had the privilege of working and learning alongside him.
The world has truly lost a great gentleman, a gifted mentor, and a man with a special heart for both Maoridom and the media industry.
Robert was a delight to have as part of the 4EB family. He always had a smile, a story to share, and words of encouragement for those around him.
Our sincere condolences go to his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
