Keeping Culture Alive in Brisbane.
For almost ten years, I’ve had the absolute joy of being a part of this incredible organisation. I’ve watched (and trained!) presenters bring their languages to life on air, been a part of our communities that shared stories that exist nowhere else, and seen how much culture, identity, and connection Radio 4EB gives to Brisbane.
Today, I need to speak with you openly and honestly.
Radio 4EB urgently needs your financial support. Our financial reality is extremely serious.
Many of you know about the sale of the car park; the big sold sign out the front is a bit of a giveaway! While this is an important step for 4EB’s future, the benefits of that sale will only be realised later in the year. The gap between now and then is putting enormous strain on our ability to keep operating.
A trend over the past 5+ years despite the organisation’s efforts, is that Radio 4EB’s income has not kept up with its expenses. We’re finally at a tipping point. Donations are a core funding stream for community radio stations and without immediate support from the communities that believes in us, 4EB faces the real risk of not being able to continue operating at the level our communities rely on or operating at all.
This is not easy to say, but it is important that you hear it directly from me.
I’ve been part of 4EB for nearly a decade, and many of you know me personally. You know I don’t sugar-coat things, you know how deeply I care about this organisation, and you know I get in there and fix things. We are planning carefully for the future, but we must first survive the next few months. That is why I’m asking for your help now.
If 4EB has ever mattered to you, if you’ve ever been proud of hearing your language on air, felt represented and heard by your language program; or just believe in our multicultural mission, this is the moment to act.
