Wha gwaan people! The Yard, presented by selector Basmati, represents one of the world’s most recognisable and loved musical genres – reggae
Originating in Jamaica, the program covers all styles/sub genres of reggae music and associated artists, from the early vintage ska and rocksteady sounds of the 1960s, roots, raggamuffin, foundation dancehall, rockers, lovers rock, dub, rub a dub, steppers and right up until today’s contemporary one drop and bashment dancehall styles
Adding to this musical texture there are features on current issues of the day in reggae music, tributes to artists that have recently passed, interviews and coverage of significant milestones in reggae music culture
The program aims to create a welcoming space for Australian audiences who are interested in learning about reggae music culture, as well as being a crucial focal point and supporter of the local Brisbane and wider Australian reggae music scene
Thanks to pioneers such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Harry Belafonte, reggae music has since spread to all corners of the globe, everywhere from its origins in Kingston Jamaica, through to Asia, the Americas, Africa, Europe and the Pacific, reggae music can be found
