WHAT? "... A Breath of Fresh Air..." is an independently produced
documentary film which was produced with
the Tony Manicaros Award of the National Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcasters' Council
(NEMBC). The documentary is to be distributed around Australia to encourage more
young people to participate in ethnic community radio.
The film features one of Australia's most innovative and
dynamic ethnic youth programs, Radio 4EB's 98.1 FM's multicultural youth show Oxygen which
is produced by around 30 local young people. It focues on three Oxygen presenters who also
present language specific youth shows on Radio 4EB FM 98.1 and provides an insight into
the world that is ethnic community radio. The documentary also features Brisbane's Lady
Mayoress Mrs Lisa Newman.
HOW? The project was made possible by the Tony Manicaros Award of the NEMBC,
access to professional filming and editing equipment by Arterial and support from Radio
4EB FM 98.1. The film crew together with the Oxygen youth group motivated each
other, with little previous film experience, a mimimal budget and under a tight deadline
were able to put together the project to make a real difference to youth and ethnic
community radio stations around Australia.
WHY? The film was produced to instigate interest and awareness of ethnic community radio among
youth to ensure that it has a future. Ethnic community radio is a support network, where
peoples' contributions are valued, inspiring people to achieve anything they put their
mind to. In "... a breath of fresh air ..." Radio 4EB FM 98.1's youth share this
experience with you.
